We're on The Roll !

A Japanese delicacy, sushi is a favorite dish of millions of eaters all across the world. Made with vinegared rice, vegetables, raw and cooked meats, there are several amazing rolls to choose from.

BUT! Which rolls are the best ones to try?

Based on my trial and error with several different rolls, I have compiled a list of my personal Top 5 Sushi rolls.

Even though this list is totally biased, it can give you some insight on the tastiest rolls to try. Here are my Top 5 sushi rolls that will take your test buds on a wild ride.

5. California Roll - The  California Roll is probably the most famous of sushi rolls. Previously named the Tojo roll, it is the father of sushi. The roll consists of crab meat, avocado, and cucumber. It's a simple go to for those who want to stay away from raw fish.

4. Crunch Roll - Often times it gets misconstrued with the Tiger Roll, the Crunch Roll has "tenkasu". Tenkasu is a crispy tempura breading that surrounds the roll. Inside the roll is spicy tempura and seaweed.

3. Spider Roll - If the California roll had a hot older brother, that would be the Spider Roll.  Coming in at 3rd on the list, the Spider Roll is made with tempura soft shell crab, avocado, cucumber, and spicy mayo.

Personally, spicy flavors aren't to appealing to my taste buds, but it was worth the try. This roll brings an extra kick and is packed with flavor.

2. Dragon Roll - 2nd place on my list is the Dragon Roll. Not only does this sushi roll have an awesome name, it comes with and awesome fish: EEL ! I guess an eel is a water dragon perhaps. In this roll, the eel is rolled with crabsticks, avocado, cucumber, and drizzled with eel sauce.

1. Philadelphia Roll - Last is my personal favorite, the Philadelphia Roll. Very simple, yet flavorful, this roll contains salmon, avocado, and cucumber. In most preparations, the salmon is smoked.

Writing is one of the best ways for people to express their internal thoughts and feelings. It creates an open space that is free of judgment and allows the author to convey whatever message they choose.

He took the time to answer question on why he became a writer, his major influences, advice for new writers, and his vision for each project he works on . Each clip is about 1 minute in length.

No Negativity !!!

I came across this image and it made me want to give you guys some ideas on how to stay positive in your daily routine. Personally, I don't think its possible to be 100% all the time... It's just not realistic! However, in the times you do experience distress, you can eliminate the stress much easier if you incorporate these tips.

1. Do Something Nice: It as been scientifically proven that helping others makes us feel better about ourselves. Go out and lend a helping hand, even if it is small.

2. Work Toward Change: Change is an inevitable factor in life. If we work with it rather than against it, we can BE the change that WE want to see. Instead of saying " Why is something like this", ask yourself "How can I make this situation change into that?"

3. Surround Yourself With Positivity: You are the company that you keep. Make sure your environment represents who you really are.

4. Self Care: No one will take care of you better than YOU. Exercise, eat healthier, try to be more prompt. We must be content with ourselves before we introduce it to the world.

5. Practice Positive Self Talk: Humans are prisoners of their own mind. We are exactly what we think about. There is nothing anyone can say to you that is worse than what you say about yourself. Write down your fears and goals.  Name 5 positive things about yourself.

All You Need Is a Little Push

Many students who attend South Carolina State are oblivious to the amazing resources that the campus offers. Guys, I'm here to tell you there's much more than going to class and the pit !

A necessary academic strength of the college environment is the ability to write a paper. You'd be surprised that some math professors assign written assignments!

Papers are essential to surviving college, and many students aren't equipped with the right tools to construct one. What if there was a student service that provides these tools ?

Here lies the PUSH Writing Center. The writing center is located on the 3rd of Turner Hall A Wing and it is supervised by Dr. Pinson . The writing center offers one on one tutoring sessions that are 30 minutes long. The sessions are geared towards assisting students with how to write and edit a paper versus writing the paper for them.

Me and my classmates were able to have a great discussion with Dr. Pinson. She emphasized why she values her teaching career and her dreams for the writing center.

Dr. Pinson told us, "My passion is my students. Whatever we can do to help them succeed is what we should do."

She also expressed that she wants to expand the size of the writing center in order to create a more convenient workspace.

Pinson said, "I just want to knock down this wall and have two sides to the writing center."

The area already has a computer lab section, however an additional section for strictly writing would be even better.

Tutors that work in the PUSH Writing Center must qualify for a work study before they are added to the team. Once they have passed this phase, a portion of the semester is spent being trained on how to assist students with their writing assignments.

If you ever find yourself struggling with anything writing related, make a visit to the PUSH Writing Center. Students and professor are dedicated to helping you succeed as a scholar and writer at SC State.

You Gotta Pin it to Win It !

9 years ago, whenever we came across a picture, website, or video that peaked our interest, we immediately had to save or bookmark it. After while, our computers would be cluttered with several link, images, and files.

In 2010, three men invented a website that would compact all of these necessities into one. Pinterest, was created by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra, and Evan Sharp. Initial development began in 2009 and the site was launched in 2010.

Pinterest is a web and mobile application that allows users to find, store, and organize images, gifs, and videos. The application has nearly an unlimited database of what can be searched. How? Because other users share content that is recycled continuously !

On Pinterest, users create "boards". You can compare a board to a collage of some sort. To fill the boards the user must "pin" an item. The term pin was coined to define how someone can store the content that they like to their page.

The creators of Pinterest use the following description, "a catalogue of ideas that inspires users to go out and do that thing".

Pinterest is filled with tons of categories to be searched and pinned. These include cooking, sports, DIY, arts and crafts, music and brands. As of October 2018, the site has 250 million active users.

Along with its convenient storing application, Pinterest is very helpful in other ways. It makes it easier to gather new ideas. Pinterest is also a great way to market your product and skills to others.

Shoppers and enthusiasts can use Pinterest to stay informed with their favorite brands and companies. Lastly, Pinterest helps you envision what you're trying to create.

On my Pinterest I have 3 boards. These are cooking, tattoos, and fashion.

Cooking has been a hobby since I was 8 years old. I am also an avid fan of the food network. In my free time I like to try new recipes at home and college. The food network Pinterest along with other boards offer great recipes to test.

I got my first tattoo when I was 18 years old. Since then my designs have gotten more intricate with each tattoo. I value tattoos as a means of self expression and a unique way to be creative. Pinterest has lots of tattoo inspiration to help me figure out my next piece of art.

Fashion has always been an interest for me. Using my imagination to create different clothing combinations is very pleasing. I like to layer shirts and jackets, and include some type of headwear.

Thousands of other Pinners love fashion just as much as I do. Viewing other clothing combinations helps me create better ideas within my own wardrobe.

I feel that Pinterest is a great tool to help users become more organized. We come up with new ideas every day and it can easily become difficult to keep up with them all.

A Day with J McCrea

The votes are in! The winner of the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series goes to----- JAELYN MCCREA ! It hasn't happened yet, but it soon will.

With a creative mind and bright future, Orangeburg was definitely unprepared for this North Carolina soul. Born and raised in Concord, NC, Jaelyn McCrea is the youngest daughter of Edison and Vanessa McCrea.

Jaeyln's vibrant energy and beautiful smile can turn heads a mile away. A 20 year old broadcasting major, McCrea is a profound student at South Carolina State University. With a 3.9 GPA, her intelligence is unmatched by her peers.

Every Saturday you can fund Jaelyn smashing the sidelines with an electrifying performance. She is the captain of the cheerleading team at SC State. McCrea began cheering at the age of seven. She expressed how the sport has changed her life.
"I really enjoy sharing my spirit with others", McCrea says. "My infectious personality has made me somewhat of a brand ambassador."

Jaelyn's demanding presence has definitely proven itself over the years. She is apart of several organizations and the face of many groups. Arriving at SC State, she was inducted into the Honors College as a presidential scholar. She noted her full academic scholarship as her "biggest achievement".

McCrea was also recently crowned Miss Phi Beta Sigma of the Eta Alpha Chapter. She represents the fraternity in several events like pageants, parades, coronations, and community service. In addition, in Spring 2018, Jaelyn was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta National Sorority Incorporated. Being apart of this sorority was merely a dream and is now reality for the multi-talented scholar.

Jaelyn invests in her broadcasting skills just as much. At SC State she is a member of the school's media club where she works as a photographer and video editor. Check out some of her work on her personal YouTube: Jaelyn's YouTube Channel

McCrea has some major role models when it comes to her broadcasting career. She noted Shonda Rhimes and Issa Rae as key influencers on her love for broadcasting.

Shonda Rhimes is the visionary behind several amazing shows like Scandal and Grey's Anatomy. Rhimes is a producer, screenwriter, and author. Jaelyn often compares herself to Issa Raye in terms of personality.

She considers herself an "Oreo"- an individual who is African American but behaves like your stereotypical white Democrat. McCrea told us, "I respect Issa Rae's grind. She started on YouTube and now produces a major TV show.

Jaelyn also took time to express some self reflection. Even as a prominent figure in her social community, she does have some off days. She noted her biggest weakness as self-doubt. "I'm often concerned about what others think", McCrea said. "Sometimes I talk myself out of doing things".

For the her future endeavors, Jaelyn is undecided. She plans to complete more internships so she can broaden her interests and skills in the broadcasting field. Aside from media, Jaelyn loves to travel. She has visited most Caribbean islands, and several states along the East Coast. In the future she wants to visit Japan, Brazil, Bali, India, and Portland, Oregon.

Meet Sheneice Caughman

"And now reporting live at halftime for the New Orleans Saints at this year's Super Bowl, Fox Sports reporter Sheneice Caughman!

She hasn't made it there yet, but soon she will. Meet your future NFL sideline reporter, Sheneice Caughman. Hailing from Newberry, South Carolina, she is a 26 year old junior at South Carolina State University.

As a die had sports fan, Sheneice loves the game of football. Her favorite team is the New Orleans Saints. Caughman also has a favorite athlete; Jimmy Graham.

Graham was a former tight end for the saints and now plays for the Green Bay packers. Sheneice claims, "I really like Jimmy Graham. He's the reason I fell in love with the New Orleans Saints". Growing up Caughman played softball. She was a very skilled player and her position was second base.

Sheneice was raised by a single mom and lived with her older sister. Having to share a bedroom, the two siblings often fought throughout their childhood.

You would think constant bickering would drive them apart but Sheneice tells us otherwise. She stated, "It wasn't a normal day if me and my sister didn't fight, but I love her. It's always been us and it's always gon' be us". Sheneice still continues to be family oriented . She spends lots of time with her nieces and nephew.

On a good day Sheneice likes to listen to a variety of music. Currently her favorite artists are Ella Mai and City Girls. She describes herself as a last minute person, but her greatest work develops out of pressure.

As mentioned earlier, Sheneice is older than your average college junior. She feels her biggest accomplishment in life so far is being able to return to school to graduate. "One semester turned into 5 years", says Caughman. Now she is on track to graduate in May of 2019.

Caughman has always been interested in communications, even as a child. She recalled stories of being involved in several news related projects. In elementary school she was apart of the school news channel. Caughman told us, "You do what you want to do in life as a child, but you never really notice it.

Post graduation, Sheneice plans to move out of South Carolina no matter the circumstances. She aims to upstart her career as a sports reporter for the National Football League.

Aside from her broadcasting aspirations, Sheneice likes to help and teach others. She stated, " I want to be the person I needed growing up". She plans to do this by starting a youth mentoring program sometime in the future.

A major goal Sheneice has after graduating is to travel. Her vivid imagination hold several amazing places she wants to visit. These include Africa, Jamaica, Japan, China, United Kingdom, and Greece. "I want to travel and blog about it", Caughman says. "I would like to talk about the food I eat and places I see."

Sheneice Caughman is an intelligent, bright and sometimes shy young woman, with a promising future. She has overcome many obstacles to get to where she is today . Caughman is not only a great spaker but writer as well. You can check out some of her posts on her personal blog: Behind The Face.

Let the Birds Fly: What is Twitter?

A "tweet" has become more of an artificial bird in today's world. How you may ask? There lies Twitter. Headed by its world renown bird logo, Twitter is a social media, new and networking that was created by Jack Dorsey in 2006. Billions of users interact through messages called "tweets", which allow you to post text, videos, and pictures.

Interestingly, Dorsey's love of technology and computers evolved from his obsession with trains. Analyzing one of the busiest locomotive systems on a higher level made him view how people connect in the same way.

The service limits users to 140 characters in their messages. Twitter does this to maintain an SMS style on the server. The first ever tweet was posted by its founder and stated: "just setting up my twttr". As of 2017, Twitter had 320 million active users and 1.3 billion registered users.

I have never used twitter. I guess I just didn't see the importance of consistently reporting what you were doing or thinking. I would say it is necessary for local and national news updates and maybe celebrities...but to each his own. As I go deeper into my career field, I'm starting to understand how social networking drives the world. Businesses, entrepreneurs, and several others depend on these types of servers to spread their content and effectively build their brand.

Today twitter is so common, you wouldn't be surprised that our own POTUS is an active user. President Trump often turns to twitter to express his concerns both personal and business related. He is often the cause of major social uproars for his out of pocket tweets. Personally I think Donald Trump shouldn't use Twitter for his personal concerns. It puts the country in a bad light if the President goes on a rant about celebrities he doesn't like. But hey, what did we expect when we elected Donald Trump in the first place?
